Escort terminology explained

Escort listings are written in a shorthand that assumes you already know it. Most of it is mundane once translated, and misreading one of these terms is a common way to waste both people’s time.

Adults 18+ only. Listings are for companionship and social time between consenting adults. Anything unlawful is prohibited and removed — see our Terms.

The two that matter most

Incall means you travel to a location the escort arranges. Outcall means they travel to you — your hotel, usually. Almost every escort listing states one, the other or both, and it is the first practical detail to establish because everything else depends on it.

Which is offered varies by city for reasons that are entirely about property. In New York, where apartments are small and buildings have doormen who log visitors, outcall is far more common. In cities with more space and cheaper property, incall is straightforward. Hotel policies then complicate the outcall side — many properties cap registered guests or require visitors to be logged at the desk, and that is worth checking in advance rather than discovering in a lobby.

Everything below is used in escort listings on this site and across the category generally. Where a term is commonly used as a euphemism for something this platform prohibits, that is stated rather than glossed over.

Independent, agency and touring

Independent

The person manages their own profile, calendar and communication. You are talking to them directly. Most listings here are independent, and it generally means slower replies but more consistency between the conversation and the meeting.

Agency

A third party handles bookings for several people. Faster to arrange and more likely to have availability at short notice; the trade-off is that the person you message is not the person you meet, and the gap between listing and reality is where complaints tend to come from.

Touring

Someone based elsewhere visiting your city for a defined window, with dates posted on the profile. Common in convention cities like Las Vegas and Chicago. A touring listing without visible dates is the one to question.

The rest of the vocabulary

One term deliberately absent: none of this vocabulary changes what may be advertised here. Listings offer companionship and social time, and a euphemism does not create an exception to that.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between incall and outcall?

Incall means you travel to a location they arrange. Outcall means they come to you, usually a hotel. Which is offered depends heavily on the city and on local property realities.

What does GFE mean?

Girlfriend experience — shorthand for a relaxed, conversational style of meeting. It is also widely used as a euphemism for services this site prohibits advertising, so read a listing that emphasises it with that in mind.

Independent or agency — which is better?

Neither in general. Independent means you deal with the person directly and what you discussed is what you get. An agency is faster and more available at short notice, at the cost of that directness.

What does touring mean?

Visiting your city for a limited period, with dates posted on the profile. Common in convention cities. If a listing says touring but shows no dates, ask before anything else.

Why do listings ask me to screen?

Because meeting a stranger carries risk on both sides. Screening is the standard way that risk is managed, and being asked for it is professional practice rather than distrust.
